SAN DIEGO, Dec. 4, 2018—Three highly visible professional athletes topped the list of 15 Stars of the Month for November as recognized by the San Diego Sports Association.
Former San Diego State standout Kawhi Leonard, North County resident Philip Rivers and San Diego Gulls’ rookie forward Troy Terry were honored along with six amateur and six high school student-athletes.
Leonard didn’t miss a beat after being traded to the Toronto Raptors where he led the team to the best record in the NBA, averaging 23.7 points and 8.9 rebounds a game.
Rivers set the NFL record for most consecutive pass completions at 25 and highest percentage when he went 28-of-29 with three TDs against the Arizona Cardinals. For the month he was 87 of 124 for 1,111 yards and 9 TDs.
Terry had a club record 11-game point streak and a 4-game goal streak, the longest by a Gulls rookie in club history.
On the amateur front, a pair of UC San Diego athletes, water polo player Jack Turner and women’s soccer standout Megumi Barber, were joined by USD basketball veteran Isaiah Pineiro, SDSU swimmer Courtney Vincent, PLNU soccer player Daulton Hommes and MiraCosta College volleyball player Hayley Torres.
High school athletes singled out were Cathedral Catholic running back Shawn Poma and Dons water polo goalie AJ Kuypers,, Sage Creek cross country runner Skyler Wallace, section singles tennis champion Katie Codd, Mater Dei Catholic golfer Ivanna Montemayor and Lincoln standout football player Don Chapman.
