George Brown was an All-American guard at the U.S. Naval Academy in 1943. After Navy service in World War II, he enrolled at San Diego State. Having a year of eligibility left, he earned Little-All America honors on the 1947 Aztecs team that played in the Harbor Bowl at Balboa Stadium, the first Aztecs team to go to a bowl. He is believed to be the only player to earn small-college honors after having made a major-college All-American team. A track and field and football star at Hoover High School, he was also the collegiate shot put champion at Navy. He earned his medical degree at Johns Hopkins and was team physician for SDSU. Brown was inducted into the Breitbard Hall of Fame in 1978.
