ABOUT
MISSION STATEMENT:
The San Diego Sports Association supports and celebrates local athletic participation and achievement in San Diego as well as youth development through sports. SDSA traces its roots back to the Breitbard Athletic Foundation, which was founded in 1946 by the legendary Bob Breitbard, and is dedicated to creating strategic and meaningful opportunities through sports and philanthropy to make a positive impact in San Diego.
We believe:
· Sports bring positive benefits and unifying power that aid in the development of youth, community and business;
· Sports positively develops social, communication, teamwork and leadership skills in youth;
· Excellence in sports is motivating, inspiring, and unifying;
· Wherever possible, we should help young athletes in need participate in sports and athletics;
· These milestones should be celebrated by bringing San Diegans together to honor, celebrate and support local athletic achievement.

The Breitbard Hall of Fame, established in 1953 by Robert Breitbard, honors athletes who have excelled athletically in San Diego or who are native San Diegans and have achieved athletic fame elsewhere. Since 1953, the Breitbard Hall of Fame has inducted more than 155 members across 25 sports and includes icons such as Bill Walton, Tony Hawk, Ted Williams, and Tony Gwynn. The Salute to the Champions is San Diego’s premier sports awards gala where the year’s most memorable performances are celebrated and the region’s greatest sports figures receive the community’s highest sports honor: Induction into the Breitbard Hall of Fame.
Join us in January when we induct Padres legends Jake Peavy and Adrian Gonzalez and one of the best local basketball players and WNBA champion Charde Houston. Pro and Amateur Stars of the Year, as well as individuals who have made significant contributions to the San Diego sports landscape, will be recognized as well. The Sports Banquet is an annual celebration that brings San Diego's sports, business and civic leaders together to do good through sports. It is SDSA’s primary fundraising event with proceeds going to support critical programs including the Youth Sports Impact Grant and other charitable programs.

The Brad Fowler Memorial Scholarship offers a $7,500 scholarship to at least seven high school seniors in San Diego County each year. A second scholarship of $7,500 can also be earned, provided the recipient remains in good academic standing following the first year of college, for a total possible scholarship award of $15,000. Additionally, scholarship recipients will receive a laptop computer from Computers 2 Kids San Diego. The nominee must have demonstrated an ability to overcome personal obstacles associated with drugs or alcohol, a strong commitment to athletics and a desire to continue personal growth and development through higher education. There is no minimum GPA requirement, but academic growth will be considered.

DESCRIPTION
• One-year scholarship for $7,500 for the first year of college
• Scholarship recipients who remain in academic standing following their first year of college will earn an additional $7,500 scholarship for their second year of college
• Eligible expenses include college tuition, books and on-campus housing
• Recipients will be required to keep in periodic communication with the SDSA, to report on their progress
NOMINATION CRITERIA
• High school senior who will enroll in either a two- or four-year college
• Has overcome personal obstacles and troubles in life associated with drugs or alcohol
• Demonstrated athletic achievement and participation in organized sports
• Demonstrated leadership ability and demonstrated personal responsibility
• Demonstrated academic growth
• Demonstrated financial need
• Has a strong commitment to setting and reaching life goals

SUBMISSION PROCESS
• All submissions must include: the completed nomination form, a copy of the student’s high school transcripts and a letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach or counselor. The letter of recommendation should attest to why the nominee’s behavior, attitude, desire and character warrant this scholarship.
• All applications should be submitted by a coach, teacher, counselor or principal and are due by February 23rd, 2024.

The Fowler Family Awards

Each month, the San Diego Sports Association honors as many as 4 professional, 6 amateur, and 6 prep athletes as Stars of the Month for their outstanding athletic accomplishments.
Stars of the Month are recognized in the San Diego Union Tribune, via the Fowler Family Awards Center, on the Sports Association's social media channels and website, and at San Diego's premier sports awards gala, Salute to the Champions. They also receive a Breitbard Certificate of Athletic Achievement.

The San Diego Sports Association and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) announced the Winter Sports All-CIF Awards Night at Petco Park on Wednesday, March 18 has been postponed with the hope of rescheduling at a later date.
The San Diego Sports Association and CIF partner to recognize all first-team and second-team All-CIF honorees. Athletes will be presented with Breitbard Certificates of Athletic Achievement. First and Second All-CIF teams will be honored as we recognize each athlete by name, distribute certificates and take team pictures. This event is to recognize and celebrate outstanding athletic excellence. Breitbard All-CIF Certificates of Athletic Achievement are named after Bob Breitbard, who was a legendary and trailblazing sports figure in San Diego and founder of the former San Diego Hall of Champions.

NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT
ANNOUNCEMENT & SIGNING DAY
Monday, April10th at the Joan B. Kroc Theatre
There will be excitement in the air on Wednesday, November 10, when student-athletes from throughout San Diego County announce where they will be playing sports at the collegiate level and sign their National Letters of Intent.
Doors open at 7:00 am and the program starts at 8:00 am.
The San Diego Sports Association's College National Letter of Intent Announcement & Signing Day is for any high school senior student-athlete intending to compete in intercollegiate athletics in any sport.
WHAT: College National Letter of Intent Announcement & Signing Day to reveal which college/university high school senior student-athletes will attend next fall. Student-athletes will be called up to the stage for the announcement and a photo opportunity.
WHO: Any current high school senior who is signing a National Letter of Intent or who will be continuing their athletic careers at universities that do not require a National Letter of Intent (Ivy League, service academies, Division II, III, NAIA).
WHERE: Salvation Army's Joan B. Kroc Theatre - 6611 University Avenue, San Diego, 92115. The theater is on the west end of the Kroc Center campus. Parking and admission are free.
WHEN: Monday April 10th 2023. Doors open at 7:00am. The program starts at 8:00 am and will be finished at 9:00 am.
WHY: To celebrate local athletic excellence. For many of these student-athletes, this is a highlight of years of practice and competition, earning the opportunity to compete at the next level.
