One of the sparks of the Seals’ offense in January, Leclaire was instrumental in closing out the month of January on a red hot 3-game winning streak.
COLLEGE
Andrew Nagy – PLNU Men’s Basketball
An offensive dynamo, Nagy ended January leading the Sea Lions in almost every offensive category and into sole possession of first place in the PacWest. For his excellent play, including back-to-back double doubles at one point, he became the first PLNU player this season to be chosen as a PacWest player of the week.
Miles Byrd – SDSU Men’s Basketball
The Aztec junior guard continued his dominance at both ends of the court in January as he helped SDSU to several huge conference wins and in the hunt for an NCAA tournament bid.
Makayla Rose – UCSD Women’s Basketball
It was a month full of highlights for the Triton, including when she scored a game winning layup to beat UC Santa Barbara on the road. With six seconds left in the game, she helped UCSD secure first place in the Big West.
Brooke Blaylock – USD Women’s Diving
The Toreros sophomore delivered an outstanding performance on the 1-meter board at the cross-town match between USD and UCSD, sweeping both diving sessions to take first place with scores of 259.35 and 256.88.
HIGH SCHOOL
Jayden Gray – Victory Christian Academy Boys Basketball
The senior basketball player was unstoppable on the court in January as he helped lead Victory Christian to the best record in school history and a berth in the CIF San Diego Open Division playoffs. For his outstanding play, Gray was one of two local high school basketball players who earned a nomination to the prestigious McDonald’s All-American game.
Josiah McDowell – Lincoln High School Boys Basketball
The Lincoln senior was one of the leading scorers in California in January as he lit up the scoreboard in every game for the Hornets. In recognition of his outstanding play, McDowell was one of two local high school boys basketball players who earned a nomination to the prestigious McDonald’s All-American game.
Safiyah Sugapong – La Jolla Country Day School Girls Basketball
The senior continued to dominate all month long for the No.1 ranked Torreys with Sugapong leading the team in several offensive categories. She was the only local high school girls basketball player nominated this year for the McDonald’s All-American game.
Emma Cunningham – Patrick Henry High School Girls Soccer
The junior midfielder had an all-around great month on the pitch for the Patriots in January as she helped her squad to several key wins and an ascent to one of the top ranked teams in San Diego.

Elana Meyers Taylor – Team USA Bobsledding
The Oceanside native, who also trains at the Chula Vista Olympic Center, continued her historic Olympic career by winning the gold medal in the inaugural women’s monobob event at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.
Kaillie Humphries – Team USA Bobsledding
The Carlsbad resident captured the bronze medal in the inaugural women’s monobob race at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.
Wes Berg – San Diego Seals
The team captain delivered several game-winning performances in February for the Seals, including a hat trick in a thrilling come-from-behind home victory against Halifax.
College
Eiley Tippins – PLNU Women’s Basketball
The Sea Lions’ senior center continued her dominance on the court throughout February, leading the team in multiple categories, including scoring. Her performances helped Point Loma Nazarene close out the regular season red hot and poised to make another NCAA Tournament run.
Naomi Panganiban – SDSU Women’s Basketball
The Aztecs’ leading scorer had a standout month as SDSU finished the regular season with a 7–1 record in February. The team now aims to capture the Mountain West Conference title and make a run in the NCAA Tournament.
Jabin Trosky – SDSU Baseball
In February, Trosky was a force to be reckoned with on the diamond, leading the Aztecs with a .377 batting average and helping guide the team to an impressive 8–2 record, including a victory over #1 ranked UCLA. For his outstanding play, Trosky has been added to the Brooks Wallace Award watchlist, the NCAA’s honor for the top shortstop in the nation.
Jayden Lobliner – USD Baseball
The senior Torero catcher had one of the most dominant offensive months in school history in February, leading the team in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.380), home runs (4), and RBIs (13), as USD got off to a strong start.
High School
Nina Hinchman – Mt Carmel High School Girls Soccer
The sophomore goalkeeper for the Sundevils had a tremendous month, highlighted by her performance in the CIF Open Division championship game. She held San Marcos scoreless in regulation and made the game-winning save in penalty kicks, helping Mt Carmel claim the title as the top high school girls soccer team in San Diego.
Farren Moss – The Bishop’s School Girls Water Polo
The junior Knights standout scored multiple goals in every playoff game for Bishop’s, helping lead the team to a historic 8th consecutive CIF Open Division championship.
Tim Dorn – Mira Mesa High School Boys Basketball
The senior Marauder had an outstanding February, leading Mira Mesa in nearly every statistical category on both ends of the court as the team captured the CIF Division 1 section championship in dominant fashion.
Mario Carini – Poway Boys Wrestling
The Titan senior closed out his already decorated high school career with even more hardware, winning both the 175 lb CIF San Diego Section and CIF State titles. His efforts helped Poway finish the season ranked as the 7th high school wrestling team in the nation.

Lia Godfrey from the San Diego Wave – The Wave FC midfielder was absolutely unstoppable in March, scoring goals in all three of San Diego’s wins, including the game-winning goal in the 86th minute of a 2–1 victory against Utah.
Anders Dreyer from SDFC – Anders was a force on the pitch for San Diego in March, scoring in almost every match, including the only goal in a dramatic 1–0 win against Sporting Kansas City.
COLLEGE
Jillian Albayati from CSU San Marcos softball – The Cougar senior continued to mash on offense all month, ending March leading Division II in batting average at .580. She is also 3rd in the nation in RBIs with 53.
Feyi Olukanni from UC San Diego Track and Field – It was another strong start to the season for the Triton thrower, winning the shotput in the first two meets of the season and setting a new school record of 15.47m. She also finished second in the discus in UCSD’s first-ever meet at UCLA.
Steele Murdock from UC San Diego baseball – The Triton starting pitcher went 3–1 on the mound in March, including a career-high 12-strikeout performance against UC Davis.
Josiah Rodriguez from Point Loma Nazarene baseball – The Sea Lion sophomore infielder continued to dominate at the plate in March, raising his team-leading batting average to .435 as he helped Point Loma go 14–4 on the month and move into first place in the PacWest.
HIGH SCHOOL
Johrden Niebla from Southwest El Centro High School baseball – The senior pitcher continued to dominate on the mound in March, throwing multiple complete games and ending the month ranked among the top pitchers in nearly every stat category.
Will Denning from The Bishop’s School boys volleyball – The Knight outside hitter has been a force to be reckoned with all season and ended the month of March leading the San Diego Section in kills, while also ranking in the top 10 in several other stat categories, including hitting percentage.
Lea Moya from Helix High School softball – The Scottie pitcher has yet to allow an earned run this season and ended March as the only high school pitcher in San Diego with a 0.00 ERA.
Alexis Felago from La Costa Canyon High School girls lacrosse – The senior midfielder has been a driving force for the Mavericks this season, as they ended March ranked No. 1 in San Diego and No. 2 in California.
