As part of our ongoing mission to honor local athletic achievement the San Diego Sports Association is proud to honor top athletes from or playing in San Diego at the professional, college and high school level every month. Here are our June 2022 honorees.
Professional Level:
Jake Cronenworth: The Padres second baseman had an outstanding month of June at the plate as he led the team in batting average (.306) and doubles (12). He also tied for second in home runs (4).
Alex Morgan: The Wave FC team captain continued to be red hot in their inaugural season, ending June with 11 total goals, which leads all players in the NWSL and marks the first time that Morgan has had a season with double digit goals.
College Level:
Brycen Mautz: The Westview High School class of ’19 graduate and current member of the USD baseball team had a career day on the mound at the Corvallis NCAA baseball regionals when he threw seven innings, allowing only four hits and one run as the Toreros beat Vanderbilt.
Sharlize Palacios: The Otay Ranch High School class of ’19 graduate and current member of the University of Arizona softball team had multiple clutch RBIs to help the Wildcats win their super regional series against Mississippi State and advance to the NCAA softball World Series.
High School Level:
Peyton Rodgers: The Torrey Pines High School sophomore baseball player threw a complete game shutout with six strike outs against Rancho Bernardo, to send the Falcons to the CIF State regional championship title game that they would go on to win.
Michelle Cervantes: The Mater Dei Catholic sophomore softball player had a pair of doubles and led the team with five RBIs for the Crusaders in the CIF State Regional championship game which they won by a final of 15-9 against Torrance High School.
