The San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl is stepping up in a time of need to help San Diego this week.
“We aren’t just a football game; we are a community group that has San Diego in our hearts,” said Holiday Bowl CEO Mark Neville .
They have organized an event to help raise donations for both the San Diego Blood Bank and Food Bank. It’s this Thursday in the SDCCU stadium parking lot from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.
According to Neville, extra precautions are being taken to ensure public safety, including a contact-free drop off location for food donations. Additionally, the blood bank is requiring an online sign up for spots to limit the number of people in the sterile environment.
With so many donation events and gatherings being cancelled or limited, it seems the Holiday Bowl’s drive couldn’t come at a more important time for the Blood Bank.
“The U.S. is on the verge of a serious blood shortage that will lead to blood rationing and triage. We need healthy people to come out to donate immediately,” said David Wellis, CEO of the San Diego Blood Bank.
More than half of the Blood Bank’s annual supply come from mobile drives put on around the county during the year.
“We already do a drive with them annually around the time of the Holiday Bowl, so it was an easy choice to reach out and make something happen,” said Neville.
