Fernando Tatis Jr. hit .313 in 29 games in August while posting a 1.057 OPS. He also went deep 11 times, tying him for the NL lead in home runs for the month. His 11 HRs included leadoff homers on back-to-back days on Aug. 7-8. He also hit his now-notable 3-0 grand slam on Aug. 17, part of the Padres’ four straight games with a grand slam, a Major League record.
Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth joined Tatis in the grand slam record in August and were equally impressive on offense. Machado had a .364 batting average and 9 home runs in the month. Cronenworth was named the National League Rookie of the Month for August. He posted a .355 batting average with 16 RBI’s and 14 extra base hits. Cronenworth continues to be one of the surprise break out players in his first season with the Padres after coming over from the Rays in the offseason along with Tommy Pham.
