The Mountain West Conference, which includes San Diego State, announced that all fall sports will be postponed. The start of college athletics has been a heavily-debated subject and this is a decision the conference seemed to not take lightly.
In an online statement, Dr Mary Papazain, the Chair of the Mountain West Board of Directors, said: “Through the hard work of many over the past several months, the Conference made every effort to create an opportunity for our student-athletes to compete, and we empathize with the disappointment this creates for everyone associated with our programs.”
This means that Aztec football, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball will all be pushed to a later start date.
Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson did not provide an updated time frame: “We will continue to navigate this pandemic together, overcome the obstacles and return to intercollegiate athletics at the earliest opportunity.”
